The only Mack bus in the
PBMs collection was recently acquired in1999. Pacific Greyhound Lines acquired 30
Mack C49DMs (#1670-1699) in 1956 for use on their extensive commuter operations in
the San Francisco Bay Area.
Built to Greyhounds
standard specs with transit seating, mechanical transmissions and single doors the Macks
were often seen on Greyhounds Marin County commute routes. Reductions in commute
service and incompatibility with other commute equipment enabled Greyhound to faze out the
Mack C49DMs in the early 1970s, selling them off to churches, bowling alleys or any
group that wanted a bus.
