Omnitrans Excursion

Saturday, October 21, 2006 found some 30 PBM members and guests in San Bernardino, CA to help Omnitrans celebrate their 30th anniversary on "Old Blue", a restored 1958 GM TDH-4801, originally Los Angeles Metropolitan Transit Authority #5191.  This bus could have possibly found it's way to San Bernardino on routes that LAMTA and successors operated.  This bus appears on a regular basis at community events and parades in the San Bernardino area.

Our tour began began with a great tour of the service/maintenance building and the LNG fueling facility.   This tour was aptly narrated by Omnitrans supervisor, Dennis Jones  and our driver was retired Omnitrans supervisor/driver, John Rippels.

We traced about six former routes, dating back some 30 years ago and covering Cal State, and the cities San Bernardino, Loma Linda, and Redlands.  As often happens, we began to run out of time, so returned to the base via the freeway; and "Old Blue" sailed along at 60 mph.  Now that was exciting.  All told, it was a great excursion for all.
