Crown Coach Model A-799-11

Some photos of the newest addition to the PBM collection, a 1952 Crown Coach, model A-779-11

September, 2003, the cleaned and waxed Crown is making a guest appearance at the Los Gatos High School All-Class Reunion.   The bus served Los Gatos High from November, 1952 to February, 1973.   I remember peering into the door of this bus when I was about 6 years old and was first fascinated with buses.  I later rode the bus for its final year, when I attended the high school.

The Crown is introduced to PBM members and photographed with Peerless 246.    We ended up taking the Crown to lunch, and the drivers were impressed with its midship Cummins 220 engine and the way the bus handled.

I'm sure that these 2 buses passed one another before, as there was a Peerless station in downtown Los Gatos, on their route between San Jose and Santa Cruz.

April, 1989 at St. Francis High School, Mountain View, CA.   The '52 is on the on the right.   The bus on the left is a '55 Crown with an International engine, and it still survives in the area, being used as an office at a truck yard

St. Francis High bought the '52  Crown in March, 1973 and used it until July, 2000.    They had 3 buses, and only put on about 6,000 miles a year total, so the '52 was well-maintained and preserved.
